FADE IN

FADE IN:

INT. CARLA'S OFFICE  -  LATE NIGHT

Inside the office doors, CARLA (ageless), a screenwriting instructor sits in front of her iMac which sits on top of her neatly organized desk. To the right of the keyboard, there are a number of BOOKS and a STEAMING CUP of tea.

Carla struggles to see the page in front of her.  Determined, she opens a desk drawer and grabs EYE DROPS. Leaning her head back, she places the drops in her eyes and blinks several times. She then takes a couple of sips of tea and resumes typing.

I would like to welcome all
                    of  you to this screenwriting
course. My hope is to instill
in you a passion to write
                    stories for the screen, and
                    help you better understand
                    the fundamentals of storytelling,
                    the connection between the human
                    psyche and creating believable
                    characters, the difference between
plot and story, and why this kind
of writing is different from any
                    other kind of fiction. Whether
                    you're a beginning screenwriter,
or a seasoned writer, you learn
how to write a compelling story
                    that's impossible to stop reading,
                    a story that's vividly cinematic,
                    properly formatted to film industry
                    standards, and that's realistically
                    produceable. Thanks for letting me
be a part of your discovery process!

Carla stretches her arms up and leans back in her office chair, nearly causing the chair to topple over. She quickly catches her balance and continues to write.

Wow! That was close! Since it's well
after the bewitching hour, I suppose
I should say good night. After all,
tomorrow is another day.  Growing sleepy
too -- a long day done, at last I watch
my door shut like the setting sun.

FADE TO BLACK.
